In my never ending search for person glory in the form of new PRs, I signed up for the Scorcher Four, a (duh) 4 mile race held in University City. This is part of my ongoing effort to PR at every distance this year and since I’ve never run a four miler, a PR was [...] I just wanted to have one last set of items related to the race that I couldn’t figure out how to get in the previous two posts. - I only have one disappointment associated with the race and it has nothing to do with the race itself. 23,568 runners paid the entry fee but only 16,480 [...] Passing the halfway cutoff one hour and fifteen minutes ahead of the guillotine was nice. At halfway the organizers start to take runners off the course if they don’t meet the time cutoffs. But I was in no danger. In fact, I was still feeling like ten hours was doable. But right [...] With apologies to the Boston Marathon, Comrades is the greatest single footrace in the world. While I haven’t run Boston (too slow) I can’t imagine it matching the Comrades experience. And other then Boston, there isn’t any other race that could be even close. My expectations for Comrades were high. But they [...] Sunday was that time again – the annual 5K sponsored by the St. Louis Zoo Friends. This was the 25th year the run was held and I’ve participated in 8% of those runs. Kind of amazing that they don’t treat me like one of the elites. This is really a cool late spring event. [...] The Flying Pig Marathon, traditionally held the first Sunday in May, is a great race and I highly recommend it. It is well organized, has tremendous spectator support, and is held on a picturesque course. The expo was definitely better then average, with good vendors giving out free samples and as a race participant [...] That’s right, the suspense is over. I finished the 50K that I ran this weekend. I just wanted to make sure you loyal readers didn’t have to read the whole report. If you’d like, you can stop now, knowing that I successfully finished. Kathy and I showed up at the Willard Middle School Saturday [...] The double punch of cold and allergies slowed training last week. I canceled two runs during the week (the dreaded hill repeats and a tempo run). Friday was a work holiday and I had scheduled the luxury yacht for routine service. After dropping the car off, I used my carless opportunity to [...] It was a big mileage weekend – two long training runs on Friday and Sunday sandwiching the Undy 5000 – the report you’ve all been waiting for! Friday after work, I groomed the toe nails (piggie that got none on the left foot was a little short – oops) and went out for two hours of pavement [...] |
